Community Hall History

History of Llanelian Community Hall.

The original community hall was a portacabin acquired second hand by our then Councillor, Ena Mary Wynne, who worked hard for our community and chaired the village committee for many years as well as running a very successful whist drive.

The old hall was requested by a group of new mums in the village who had been meeting in each others houses and felt there was a need for a communal space.

Over the next 30 years the committee organised many events for the village and surrounding area and improved the facility until the building started to deteriorate.

A successful bid was made to the Welsh Loteri Fund and Gwynt y Mor and the money was raised to build this new hall. We were very fortunate to engage the services of Saer Architects and Gethin Wyn Jones who grew up in the village.

He designed this building and worked tirelessly as project manager giving up hours of his time at weekends to help with the groundwork.

So many members of the community gave their time and hard work to achieve what we have here today and we hope that this building continues to bond this community for generations to come.

The Cement Boys: Russell, Lew, Chris, Dicky, and Paul who gave many hours of their time lifting slabs, mixing concrete and laying paths to help speed up the project. (Absent: Gwyn and Gethin).

The Building Journey

Hanes Neuadd Gymunedol Llanelian.

Caban symudol oedd y neuadd gymunedol wreiddiol, a gafwyd yn ail law gan ein Cynghorydd ar y pryd, Ena Mary Wynne. Gweithiodd yn galed dros ein cymuned a hi oedd cadeirydd pwyllgor y pentref am nifer o flynyddoedd, yn ogystal â chynnal gemau chwist llwyddiannus iawn.

Gofynnwyd am yr hen neuadd gan grŵp o famau newydd yn y pentref a oedd wedi bod yn cyfarfod yn nhai ei gilydd ac yn teimlo bod angen man cymunedol.

Dros y 30 mlynedd nesaf, trefnodd y pwyllgor nifer o ddigwyddiadau ar gyfer y pentref a’r cyffiniau, gan wella’r cyfleuster hyd nes i’r adeilad ddechrau dirywio.

Gwnaed cais llwyddiannus i Gronfa Loteri Cymru a Gwynt y Môr, a chodwyd yr arian i adeiladu’r neuadd newydd hon. Buom yn ffodus iawn i gael gwasanaeth Saer Architects a Gethin Wyn Jones, a fagwyd yn y pentref.

Dyluniodd yr adeilad hwn a gweithiodd yn ddiflino fel rheolwr prosiect, gan roi oriau o’i amser ar benwythnosau i helpu gyda’r sylfeini.

Cyfrannodd cymaint o aelodau’r gymuned eu hamser a’u gwaith caled i gyflawni’r hyn sydd gennym yma heddiw. Gobeithiwn y bydd yr adeilad hwn yn parhau i ddod â’r gymuned hon ynghyd am genedlaethau i ddod.
